The search for good Latin American fare in German-speaking countries continues with a stop at a regional chain of restaurants offering up a mix of international fare. A small selection of Latin American dishes are available at Villa Masianco, one of them the ‘burritas con pollo’ dish. It’s basically a baked tortilla folded around a filling mixture of green beans, corn, bell peppers, and tomatoes along with chunks of chicken. Continue reading

A large number of Austrian immigrants originate from the southeastern European region. These immigrants not only bring with them their hard-working attitude and expertise, but also their unique traditions and culture. The luxury of having immigrants from different European countries is evident in the rich, culinary offerings found all over the place – in supermarkets, specialty stores, and particularly in restaurants. Ćevapčići, a traditional and widely popular Eastern European dish (namely in Serbia and Croatia, the former Yugoslavian area) of seasoned minced meat shaped into little sausages, is one prime example of the influence immigrants have on the local cuisine. Café Zillertal offers these delicious grilled meats in one such dish. Continue reading

At first glance, the dish of the day might look like fried eggs covered in white sauce, with mushrooms and onions scattered about, and potatoes on the side. The bubbly corners sort of create this illusion. But upon closer inspection, a super thin meat fillet lies underneath the pile and playfully pokes out. Instead of a light breakfast, it’s the Alpine pork schnitzel meal of the day! The white cream layering the top happens to be melted cheese, the crispy edges are oven-baked traces of cheese, and the apparent mushrooms sliced bacon. Continue reading

Dish of the Day 1: Burgundy Roast Beef with Potato Croquettes, Red Kraut, and mixed Salad – Tagesgericht 1: “Burgunderbraten” mit Kroketten, Rotkraut, gem. Salat

Two heavy slabs of mouthwatering beef roast rest comfortably in the center of the dish. A thick and fragrant Burgundy gravy coats the surface and permeates the plate. Six tempting little potato croquettes line one side, bathing joyously in the sauce; a generous pile of braised red cabbage occupies the other end.
